Liz Mathews

Liz Mathews (they/them/she/her) is a visual artist, writer, and teacher practicing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Over the past twelve years, Liz has mentored writers and led workshops & demonstrations that use arts activities to foster literacy and self-expression.

Liz draws inspiration from language, nature, music, and identity to compose expressive, often playful, abstractions. They've researched metaphor as a medium for visual and linguistic composing as well as for understanding difference and studied the role of silence in writing, teaching, and tutoring. Liz is currently publishing online their interactive graphic memoir called A Fat Folx* Guide to Expanding and begins a graduate program in social work at the University of Pennsylvania this fall, 2021.
