LZ/LIZ Mathews
LZ Mathews (they/them) is a visual artist, writer, and teacher practicing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Over the past twelve years, Liz has mentored writers and led workshops & demonstrations that use arts activities to foster literacy and self-expression. Now pursuing social work, LZ continues to explore the role of creativity in fostering empathy, healing, & empowerment among individuals and groups.
LZ draws inspiration from language, nature, music, and identity to compose expressive, often playful, abstractions. They've researched metaphor as a medium for visual and linguistic composing as well as for understanding difference and studied the role of silence in writing, teaching, and tutoring.
